The Future of Reading – Kindle 4

Do you love reading? I do. It took me a while before I decided to buy myself an electronic book reader – the Amazon Kindle – but now I have one, I can’t get enough! I’m beginning to get a bit impatient for the updated version – the Kindle 4 – when will it be ready? I’m certainly not the only person who’s wondering. I pre-ordered the 3rd generation model last August – that was just over a year ago. So by my reckoning, we are getting really close to being able to put our names down on the list for the 4th generation unit. That’s what I call excitement!

Amazon seem to also be developing a tablet type device – to compete with the iPad. I think these are pretty cool gadgets but if I’m being honest, I’m more interested in the straight up hand held readers. I love being able to go online on my computer – buy a few books and then download them instantly to my handset. No more waiting for book deliveries!

The good news is that the Kindle 4 might not be as expensive as we imagine. Have a look at this CNN article that discusses ‘Why Amazon would be smart to give away the Kindle‘. I sure hope they bring the price down even further.

We are going to have to wait and see whether it will come with a color screen. This is something I have mixed feelings about. Yeah, it would look pretty neat. At the same time, is it going to make much of a difference if I just want to read a simple book? [Image below taken from: http://www.buyabetterlife.net/color-kindle/

I can’t wait to see just how Amazon have improved on the current model. Color and touch are two of the BIG changes that might happen. There’s bound to be lots of little improvements too. It may well be that it’s not the headline grabbing features that are the real winners but things like faster page turns and more ergonomic design that really improve the user experience for heavy book readers, like me.
